Class Description
This course provides a practical, step‑by‑step overview of OSHA’s injury and illness recordkeeping requirements with a focus on properly completing and maintaining the OSHA 300 Log of Work‑Related Injuries and Illnesses, as required under 29 CFR 1904 (Recordkeeping and Reporting Occupational Injuries and Illnesses) see Subparts C–D for forms and criteria: 29 CFR 1904.4–1904.29 and 1904.30–1904.33.
Participants will learn how to determine which cases are OSHA‑recordable, how to distinguish first aid from medical treatment, and how to accurately classify cases (injury vs. illness, days away, restricted duty, etc.). The class walks through each column of the OSHA 300 Log, explains the OSHA 300A annual summary requirements, and reviews retention, updating, and multi‑establishment rules see, for example, §1904.30 (separate logs per establishment) and §1904.32–1904.33 (annual summary, retention, and updating).
Through real‑world examples and practice scenarios, attendees will gain confidence in:
- Identifying work‑related, new, and recordable cases under OSHA criteria
- Completing and maintaining the OSHA 300 Log, 300A, and understanding their relationship to the 301 form
- Applying OSHA rules for covered employees, multiple locations, and changes in business ownership
- Avoiding common recordkeeping mistakes that can lead to under‑ or over‑recording and potential citations
This class is designed for safety professionals, HR staff, supervisors, and anyone responsible for OSHA recordkeeping. By the end of the course, participants will be able to maintain compliant, accurate OSHA 300 Logs that withstand internal review or regulatory inspection.
