Confined Space Entry Training

General Industry (29 CFR 1910.146) & Construction (29 CFR 1926 Subpart AA)

Course Description

This focused, half-day Confined Space Entry training equips workers, supervisors, and safety professionals with the essential knowledge to safely identify, evaluate, and enter confined spaces in compliance with OSHA’s General Industry Standard (29 CFR 1910.146) and Construction Standard (29 CFR 1926 Subpart AA). Through a combination of instruction, permit exercises, and hands-on monitoring demonstrations, participants will leave prepared to fulfill their roles in a confined space program and apply safe entry procedures on the job — the same day.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Define and classify confined spaces, distinguishing between non-permit-required and permit-required confined spaces under both standards
  2. Identify hazards associated with confined spaces — atmospheric, physical, engulfment, and configuration
  3. Explain key differences between 1910.146 and 1926 Subpart AA, including controlling contractor responsibilities unique to construction
  4. Describe the roles of authorized entrants, attendants, entry supervisors, and rescue personnel
  5. Apply proper atmospheric testing sequence — oxygen, flammability, toxicity — and interpret readings
  6. Complete a confined space entry permit, identifying all required elements
  7. Recognize when to cancel or suspend an entry and safely exit a confined space
  8. Explain rescue and emergency response requirements, including non-entry rescue methods

Why This Training Matters

Confined space incidents remain among the most deadly in the workplace. OSHA estimates that approximately 90 workers die in confined space incidents each year, with many fatalities occurring among would-be rescuers who enter without proper training or equipment. This course provides the critical knowledge and practical skills needed to prevent these tragedies — ensuring your team can recognize the hazards, follow proper procedures, and respond effectively in an emergency.
